Activities with Parents

2016 / 2017

Science for Fun

Science for Fun sessions will begin in the 2nd classes after Easter. The project involves parents working with a tutor and the fun element is emphasised at all times. This is an opportunity for parents to spend some fun time with your children in a learning environment.

Grandparents'/Elderly Friends' Day

We welcomed our grandparents/ elderly friends to celebrate this very special day with our school community. Some grandparents visited our classes to share memories with the children. This was followed by a special prayer service in the school hall and refreshments were served to all grandparents/elderly friends and their grandchildren/young friends in the cafeteria. Thank you to everybody who made this day so special.

 Cake Sale

Another successful cake sale was held by our Parents' Association on Friday February 17th in our Parents' Room. So many children and parents baked and donated delicious cakes and buns for this fundraiser. Every class came and bought some goodies and there were a lot of happy children on the day! Many thanks to our Parents' Association for organising this event, to our parents who donated and helped out on the day and to all the children also.

Now that Spring has sprung our parents have started working in our school garden under the guidance of Monika. We meet on Tuesday mornings weather permitting and Áine from Seed Savers is supporting development of the garden also. It is a great way to find out how to manage and plan a garden. Plenty of useful tips!! This space is so important to the school as it helps with environmental awareness as well as acting as an outdoor classroom. All parents are welcome to come along and develop their skills while helping us to develop a beautiful resource. Watch out for texts regarding activities in the garden!

We are very privileged to now have a woodwork room located behind the stage in our hall. This was established by Shane Griffin who is shared HSCL in our school. This is open to parents throughout the school day and also used for workshops which are held on a regular basis. If you are interested, call Shane on 086 6040686

Projects to date include making birdboxes, flower planters, benches and herb pallet planters, all of which we will be using in our school garden. Some of the children were even involved in decorating the birdboxes. Thank you for all the hard work to date and we look forward to lots more parents getting involved in projects in the future.

Craft Club

Our parents' craft club meet in the parents' room every Friday morning at 9am under the coordination of Liliana Lacka who is chairperson of our Parents' Association. Parents come together to share their skills and produce talented pieces which help to make our parents' room and school environment more attractive. They are, at present, very busy making gifts for our 2nd and 6th class students. This is an informal group and parents are very welcome to join us whenever they are available. Look at some of their beautiful work below and if you feel you could benefit from this club, just call in :-)

Parent Courses

Since HSCL started in Holy Family Schools, we have been committed to providing a variety of informative and interesting courses for our parents. Every year, in conjunction with The Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB) and The Clare Local Development Committee (CLDC), a timetable of courses is established. In the past, these have included classes in English, Cookery, ICT, Irish, Health and Wellbeing and Looking after the Family. Courses are advertised by posters around the school and through Text a Parent. All parents are welcome to participate in these courses. Contact Olivia on 086 6040686 if you are interested in attending a course or if you have any ideas about courses you would like to see run in the school.
