'Keep Safe' Event

Thu, Feb 27th, 2020

Our senior classes were very fortunate to attend the ‘Keep Safe’ event on Wednesday in Cois na hAbhna.

This event is sponsored by the Health and Safety Authority and facilitated by Junior Achievement Ireland who plan to bring together one hundred 6th class children from local primary schools in Cois na hAbhna, along with various state agencies and regional organisations for the purpose of promoting safety, health and community awareness.

‘Keep Safe’ is aimed at preparing children for their transition to secondary level education. The programme has a direct link to the curriculum at primary school, with particular relevance to Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE). It is also an opportunity to present children with practical safety messages in a new and interesting way in order to keep themselves safe in any number of situations. Each agency/organisation presented a ten minute interactive scenario to the children on a series of safety issues such as road safety, electrical safety, fire safety, water safety, and personal safety.
